Harris Federation has a performance record in terms of improvement in examination results combined with numbers of outstanding Academies which is unmatched by any Academy group in the country.

The Harris Federation aims to transform the life chances of young people by bringing about rapid improvement in examination results, personal development and aspiration.  In Summer 2011 our eight Academies with examination results achieved record improvements for the fifth successive year.  In seven of the eight Harris Academies, these results have been achieved entirely with students from the predecessor schools.

The average improvement in five or more higher grade passes including English and Mathematics was 13% (up from 11% in 2010 and 9% in 2009), which was far in excess of the national improvement and well above the national Academy improvement this year.  In terms of the overall number of students gaining five good passes in any subject, including English and Maths, the average across the group has risen  from 30% in 2006 to 68% this year.

The improvement in the percentage with five or more higher passes at GCSE has risen from 49% in 2006 to 95% this year.  Seven Harris Academies now have 90% or more students gaining five good passes, with four at 100%.  Additionally, seven of the nine original Academies inspected so far have been judged to be Outstanding by Ofsted (eight if converter Academies are included).  These performances are a significant improvement on the record of the predecessor schools.

League Table Results 2011

Average improvement across the Harris Federation was 13 percentage points for 5 A*- C grades including English and maths - four times the national average of 3.1%.  The figures are even more interesting when you compare our performance to the performance of the other schools within the Local Authorities we operate in:

  • London Borough of Southwark: The three most improved schools here are all Harris Academies - the most improved is Harris Girls' Academy which jumped 18 percentage points
  • London Borough of Merton: The most improved school here is Harris Academy Merton which jumped 26 percentage points to 75% - up from 23% when it was run by the LEA.  It is also now the top performing mixed school in the borough - an amazing achievement given its starting point in 2006
  • London Borough of Croydon: Harris City Academy Crystal Palace is the top performing school in the borough.  The 2 fastest improving mixed schools in the borough are also Harris Academies
  • 8 of our 11 inspected Academies are rated Ofsted Outstanding - that's 73% compared to a national average of 17%
