Beckenham Free School

In light of the current shortage of quality primary school places in Bromley, the Harris Federation has been asked by Bromley Council to look in to the demand from local families for a proposed new co-educational Primary Free School in the Beckenham area.

The Harris Federation is an educational charity with over twenty years’ experience of running successful Academy schools across London. This would be a Free School which, like Academies, are independent state schools run by sponsors such as the Harris Federation. If you live in the area and are the parent of a baby or toddler, they stand to benefit from this proposal.

More information on this proposal can be found here.

The Application Process

For Free School’s (like us) wanting to open in September 2014 we had to submit our application to the Department for Education (DfE) by 4th January 2013. Our application has now been assessed and we have been invited to an interview by the DfE to discuss our proposal. This will take place in March this year with a decision made as to whether we have been successful or not given in May.

The Proposed School Site

The Education Funding Agency have contacted us with regard to potential sites for the school. As soon as we have more information we will update this page with the details.

How to support this school being opened

If you think Harris Primary Free School Beckenham would be a school that you want for the community and would choose for your son or daughter, please register your support.

In addition, we are setting up a steering group of parents to help us plan and develop the school. If you feel you would be interested in joining the steering group, express your interest below and we will contact you directly.

When the Government considers our application to open the school, every signature will count.
