Harris Professional Skills Sixth Form
Welcome to Harris Professional Skills Sixth Form (HPS6F)
Revised Opening Date
Since we consulted in 2016 the Secretary of State has agreed that the new school will open when the building is ready in September 2018. In 2017 we will offer GCSE retakes but at one of our other schools.
Harris Professional Skills Sixth Form (HPS6F) is a brand new sixth form for young people in Croydon and the surrounding areas.
HPS6F will provide a unique offer for young people across South London. There will be:
- 170 professional skills places for sixth formers, with a curriculum including construction, manufacturing, business retail and Level 3 core maths.
- 60 places for students wishing to study for or retake GCSE-level courses before progressing to higher level sixth form education.
- Dedicated pastoral support including life skills coaching and career guidance.
The core aim of HPS6F will be to thoroughly prepare students for their careers of choice or the next stage of their education.
A community resource
As well as being an important resource for generations of South London teenagers, we want HPS6F to grow into an adult education hub. As our plans progress, we will explore every option to introduce evening classes that give local adults the opportunity to make use of our facilities and teaching expertise.
Location and opening
HPS6F will open in two phases: The GCSE-level places will be available in September 2017, followed by the 170 professional skills places in September 2018.
The permanent home for the sixth form is the former South Norwood Police Station building in Oliver Grove alongside the Harris Federation’s Aspire Academy; a successful alternative provision academy currently located in Beckenham.
The building is being revamped to include state-of-the-art practical facilities for each course in addition to modern classrooms and learning suites. It will open in the summer of 2018.
There will be 60 GCSE places each year from 2017 and 85 professional skills places in Year 12 each year starting in 2018.
Any student who can travel to the site every day will be welcome, so HPS6F students will come from across South London.
However, if it is oversubscribed, the sixth form will prioritise those students who live closest to the permanent building in Oliver Grove.
This will follow the usual priority given to students with Special Educational Needs and Looked After or former Looked After students.
