Harris Westminster Sixth Form celebrates outstanding A level results

The sixth form achieved phenomenal results this summer, with 16 students heading to the University of Oxford and University of Cambridge and a total of 106 students securing places at Russell Group universities.

The academically selective sixth form opened in September 2014 as a partnership between Westminster School and the Harris Federation. The sixth form, which attracts students from across the capital, prioritises students who receive free school meals, are in care or are from low-income backgrounds.

Individual success stories include:

Samantha-Jo Onyekwere, from Gillingham, who studied at Harris Westminster Sixth Form, received a remarkable
four A*s in her A level exams, meeting her offer to study Economics at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. She also received offers from prestigious US universities Yale and Columbia.

This already outstanding achievement is made even more impressive by the fact that Samantha-Jo is a year group ahead of her age, and doesn't turn 18 until next March.

Samantha-Jo was pictured opening her results in The Guardian. Students were also featured celebrating in the The Daily Mail.

Santiago Wagner-Valez, has won a place to study Architecture at Sheffield.

He will be the first in his family to study at university, after gaining 2 A*s, a B and a C in his A level exams. Santiago’s achievement is made even more impressive due to the fact that he has spent much of his time whilst studying at the sixth form living in temporary accommodation.

Shakera Haque, a pupil premium student from Forest Hill, received an impressive 3 A*s and 1 A in her A-level exams. She is going to study Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics at Warwick.

James Handscombe, Principal of Harris Westminster Sixth Form, said:

“These students have worked incredibly hard throughout their two years with us and they are absolutely deserving of the opportunity to study at the worlds most famous and respected universities.

“Many of our students will be the first in their family to attend university and some have achieved these results despite very challenging personal circumstances. They are some of London’s brightest and best and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for these impressive and dedicated young people.”
