Harris Students Row Royal Vessel in Achievers' Day Flotilla
Over 80 students from five Harris academies competed in the Gloriana Achievers’ Regatta, after learning how to row.
The two top-performing crews then rowed the royal vessel, Gloriana, in the Achievers’ Day Flotilla for the event’s second year.
The overall winners were the Harris Academy Chafford Hundred team.
Gloriana, The Queen’s Row Barge, was seen by millions gliding down the River Thames back in 2012, as part of a 1,000-strong flotilla to mark the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.
The regal boat now forms the centrepiece of an educational fun day at Royal Albert Dock, Newham, recognising schools that have vastly improved their academic results.
Lord Harris, chairman of The Harris Federation, said:
“The winning crews will be so proud to say they’ve crewed HM the Queen’s Row Barge.”
