Harris Federation to open Professional Skills Sixth Form in September

The Harris Federation will be opening a brand new sixth form offering professional skills courses in construction, retail, business and media for students in the Croydon area in September 2018.

The new sixth form will offer 230 places, giving priority to local students.

Focusing on skills that are in increasingly high demand across the country, the sixth form will offer students the opportunity to develop technical, hands-on skills that employers need.

Students will also have the opportunity to sit GCSE retakes, with a suite of traditional GCSEs on offer.

In particular the sixth form will provide high quality education for:

  • Students who wish to stay on in a smaller sixth form environment and do not wish or are not eligible to follow the
    A level pathway;
  • Students who are new to the country and have not yet had the opportunity to obtain GCSE grades that allow them to progress to the next phase of education;
  • Students who are vulnerable or require additional pastoral care and progress management.

    Andrew Barr, Principal, Harris Professional Skills Sixth Form said:

    “Many local families are already familiar with the Harris Federation’s reputation for running successful academies in and around London. The new Professional Skills Sixth Form offers local students an alternative route to continue their studies and progress their future careers.

    “Our facilities will be second to none. Young people who want to learn a trade like plumbing, plastering and bricklaying or want to learn digital and media skills should take a look at what we can offer. Admissions are now open for our first places in September 2018.

     “Our aim is to help our students to be who they want to be.  As well as excellent teaching in small class sizes, we will encourage and support our students to give them the confidence they need to compete successfully for jobs in their chosen vocation or go on to University.

     “In light of the high levels of new investment in Croydon town centre, giving students the opportunity to gain qualifications in sectors such as Business Retail and Construction will enable them to make a real difference to their own lives and the local community.”

    Students wishing to find out more about Harris Professional Skills Sixth Form or apply for a place should contact the Harris Federation on 020 8253 7777 or email info@harrisps6f.org.uk or go to http://www.harrisps6f.org.uk/ to apply online.
