Harris Federation class of 2021 celebrates success

We are immensely proud of a fantastic set of A Level results and outcomes this year.

Overall, 80% of our sixth formers are heading off to university, with a sizable group of students having also won places on competitive apprenticeship programmes.

Despite having lost a quarter of face-to-face teaching time to national lockdowns, the Harris Federation’s Class of 2021 has triumphed. Key highlights include:

  • Around a quarter (24%) of sixth formers are going to Russell Group universities, twice the national rate.
  • 41 Harris students have won places at medical school. All have beaten the odds to get there – nationally just nine per cent of youngsters who apply for medicine get a place – but some of our cohort have also overcome huge obstacles in their personal lives. In particular, two have contended with chronic health conditions, one has been homeless on and off, and one is a carer for a parent.
  • 44 of our students are off to Oxford and Cambridge, many of whom are from backgrounds vastly under-represented at these universities.  With these places confirmed, over 150 Harris students have now taken up Oxbridge places over the past four years, both via Harris Westminster Sixth Form and our Harris Experience programme.
  • 36 Harris students so far will be taking up apprenticeships, with many more in the pipeline. Examples include apprenticeships at Bank of America, Bloomberg, KPMG, Schroeders and UBS.

It’s been a particularly gruelling two years, not just for students but also for staff who have been phenomenal in battling not just the challenges of the pandemic but also a ransomware attack on our Federation just before Easter – and ensuring neither would affect our students’ chances of success.

Well done to all!
