Harris Academy Battersea celebrates excellent summer exam results

Students at Harris Academy Battersea are celebrating after another year of excellent GCSE and A Level results.

Before joining the Harris Federation, only 44% of students were achieving A*-C in English and Mathematics at GCSE. This figure has almost doubled with 83% of students achieving this measure this year. 

The academy also saw a significant increase in its EBacc score (A*-C or 4 and above in the core academic subjects), which increased from 41% in 2016 to 54% this year. This is well above the national average, which was 23% in 2016.

Amidst the success of the academy as a whole at GCSE level, there were a number of outstanding achievements by individual students, including 16 year old Anita Fonseca.

Anita achieved the very best results possible, with straight A*s in sociology, physics, chemistry, biology, French, Spanish, geography and statistics. She also has been awarded an impressive two 9s (the new ‘super grade’ in the new numerical grading system for maths and English).

BBC interview new grading systemThree Harris Academy Battersea students also made an appearance on the BBC News, explaining the new GCSE grading system.

At A level, the academy had a 100% pass rate across all subjects, with many outstanding successes for individual students such as Teofil Aleksandrov, who will read Mathematics at Churchill College, Cambridge. Teofil achieved 3 A* grades in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics and two Grade 1s in his STEP papers. He also achieved a gold in the Physics Olympiad.

Teofil Today ProgrammeTeofil made an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme to discuss his excellent results.

Other individual successes included:

Hassan Abdullah, who obtained 3 A grades in Chemistry, Maths and Physics and will read Physics at Imperial College London.

Najma Warsame will read Chemistry at University College London, having achieved 3 A grades in Chemistry, History and Mathematics.

Rikayah Duncan achieved 3 A grades in Biology,Psychology and Sociology. She will read Psychology at the University of Kent.
