Harris Academies scoop Pupil Premium awards

Three Harris Academies have been recognised by the 2015 Pupil Premium Awards for the outstanding achievement of disadvantaged students. This means that GCSE attainment and progress of disadvantaged students and those eligible for the Pupil Premium at Harris Academy Purley, Harris Academy Chafford Hundred and Harris Academy South Norwood is amongst the best in the country. Again demonstrating its position as a leading school nationally, Harris Academy Chafford Hundred was also named as one of the top 100 non-selective state schools in England for both GCSE grades and for progress made by students between Key Stages 2 and 4. In addition to the three Academies with Pupil Premium Awards, Harris Academy Greenwich was named in a letter from Minister for Schools David Laws as one of the top 100 non-selective state schools in England for student progress. The Minister also wrote to the award-winning Academies announcing that, in light of their achievements, children at each will benefit from £5,000 of additional funding. The Pupil Premium is given to schools to help them raise the achievement of disadvantaged students and close the gap between them and their peers. The schools will now work with their students to decide how best to invest the additional award in a way that further enhances their progress and attainment. They will also have the opportunity to vie with other high-performing schools from across the country for the top £250,000 prize. Sir Dan Moynihan, Chief Executive of the Harris Federation, said:  “The performance of students eligible for the Pupil Premium across the Federation as a whole surpasses the national average, and we are delighted that the exceptional dedication of these Academies to high achievement for all has been recognised.”
