Turbocharging Teaching of Computer Science

Just as more Harris Federation students than ever are opting to study computer science, our subject-expert staff, including our central computer science consultants, are supporting a series of national initiatives that will have an impact on our own schools and at other schools more widely.

These are aimed at inspiring participation and safely unlocking the benefits of new technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), for classrooms.

Read about our collaboration with the government’s Department for Education, the National Institute for Teaching, Faculty AI, researchED and others, to identify how AI should (and shouldn’t) be used in education

We are also:

  • Among the first UK schools to be working with BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT and Microsoft TEALS, partnering them to see how the success of the TEALS computer science education programme in the USA could be replicated in London and the rest of the country. TEALS is an award-winning initiative that supports schools to build and grow their computer science programmes by pairing trained professionals with classroom teachers, and we are delighted to be supporting the London-pilot;
  • Working with STEM Learning and the National Centre for Computing Education to develop our curriculum so that Harris primary pupils are completely ready to thrive in our secondary curriculum for computer science - and the findings of this project will be shared with all interested schools nationally.
