Important from Sir Dan and - agree 100%. Also think practically that variability in the quality of inspectors is too great and must be addressed if this complex new framework is to be successfully implemented.

Harris Primary Academy Coleraine Park Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ in every category

Harris Primary Academy Coleraine Park has been judged to be an ‘Outstanding’ school by Ofsted.

The Academy, which is in Haringey, opened in September 2012 at the same time as the nearby Harris Primary Academy Philip Lane.  Both academies replaced schools in special measures and Philip Lane was earlier this year judged by Ofsted to be ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ features.

Inspectors visited Coleraine Park in the beginning of July and found it to be 'Outstanding' overall and in each of the four individual categories looked at by Ofsted: achievement, teaching, behaviour, and leadership and management.

In their report, inspectors say:

  • ‘Pupils are proud of their Academy…they are polite, eager to learn and very friendly.’
  • ‘Pupils are taught extremely well in an atmosphere where all are valued…across the academy, teachers make  learning fun.’
  • ‘From very low starting points, pupils make rapid progress.’
  • Pupils ‘know what it is to try hard, persevere and show resilience.’
  • ‘Disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs…attain well and make good or better progress.’
  • ‘Teachers are expert at planning challenging and interesting activities.’
  • ‘Leadership and management at all levels, including governance, are outstanding.’
  • ‘The Harris Federation has provided highly effective strategic and financial support for the Academy.’

Joanne Taylor, the Principal of the Academy, was called ‘an inspirational leader’ by Ofsted.  She said:

“I am delighted that the relentless hard work and  uncompromising drive of the staff team have been recognised.

“We have raised the bar for our Academy community and we are committed to the ongoing challenge of maintaining this level of excellence to fulfil our motto and achieve ‘exceedingly, abundantly, above all we can think or imagine’”.

Sir Dan Moynihan, Chief Executive of the Harris Federation, said:

“Many congratulations to Joanne and her team of staff who have vastly improved the education and care of pupils.

“I would also like to thank and pay tribute to the Governing Body of the Academy.  Under the Chairmanship of Susan Head, they are also the governors of Harris Primary Academy Philip Lane. They volunteered to step in at a very challenging time, when both predecessor schools were in Special Measures, and have been exceptional.”
