The quote was an answer to a question. Context is the kind of child who wld otherwise not achieve b/c of their circs pre COVID compounded by lockdown. In that situation, it is better for the child to get fewer quals than take all subjects but in the end have little to show for it

Harris Federation - Progress 8 2019

2019 was another successful year for the Harris Federation as recently released school league tables show that we remain the top-performing large Multi-Academy Trust  (10+ schools) for Progress 8.

Progress 8 is the measure of the progress a child makes between the end of primary school and the end of secondary school.

22 Harris secondary academies were included in these results and our combined score was a phenomenal +0.41. Nine Harris academies are in the top 10% of all schools nationally for pupil progress.

Highlights include:

This year, 40% of our GCSE cohort came from disadvantaged backgrounds and they achieved phenomenally with a collective Progress 8 score of +0.23. By contrast, in 2018, the national score for disadvantaged pupils was -0.44. This means that, on average, disadvantaged students at Harris achieve one grade higher in six of their best eight subjects – in effect, getting 6 GCSE grades more than they would at a statistically ‘average’ school.

Overall, 35% of Harris students achieved the Ebacc, compared to just 24% of students nationally (2018), demonstrating the high quality, demanding curriculums in place in our academies.
