A Level results 2022
Huge congratulations are due to the Harris Federation’s Class of 2022 and all those who have supported them.
We always look forward to results days, but today was even more anticipated than usual with students elated to be collecting their A Level qualifications after missing out on their GCSE examinations in 2020.
The highlights are:
1. Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science
We have doubled the number of offers received for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science from previous years. Almost a third of our applicants received offers which is double the national average. This cohort is made up entirely of students from ethnic minority or white working-class backgrounds, with a third on bursaries for low incomes.
2. Oxford and Cambridge
We have 48 confirmed Oxbridge places, bringing the total number of Harris students to have got into Oxford and Cambridge over the past five years to over two hundred! Nearly half of our Oxbridge cohort are on bursaries for low incomes, with the 48 students made up almost exclusively of ethnic minority or white working class backgrounds including one from the Traveller community. Not only have we exceeded the number of places achieved last year, but they are for courses recognised as being among the most competitive in a year with fewer offers nationally.
3. Top grades
Despite national predictions of fewer top grades, over two hundred Harris Year 13s achieved straight As and A*s.
4. Apprenticeships
At least 26 of our students have places confirmed on apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships, with many more in the pipeline, including at Arrup, Morgan Stanley, IBM and Deloitte as well as a Theatre Technician apprenticeship with Wimbledon Theatre.
Students collecting results today are the perfect role models for children in the year groups that will follow. They have shown determination, tenacity and resilience through the pandemic years and we know that, as they progress into adulthood, their hard work at school will stand them in good stead to lead successful and fulfilling lives.
