HRH Duchess of Edinburgh joins students at Harris Girls Academy East Dulwich for a menstrual health workshop

Students and staff at Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich have been joined by HRH Duchess of Edinburgh for a workshop about menstrual health.

The workshop was part of Wellbeing of Women’s "Just a Period" campaign, which aims to educate girls and young women about heavy bleeding and pain, so that they know when and how to seek medical help.

Tanya Simon-Hall, founder of The Adeno Gang, delivered the workshop for Year 11 students and sixth formers. It covered important issues such as what a ‘normal’ period looks like and provided information about conditions such as adenomyosis, fibroids and polycystic ovary syndrome, as well as when and how to ask for medical help.

The Duchess of Edinburgh, a patron of Wellbeing for Women, sat in on the workshop and listened to the students’ questions and comments, and chatted to them about her own experience of heavy periods.

Joanne Young, Principal of Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich, said:

“We were delighted to host this very special event for Wellbeing of Women, a cause we are particularly pleased to champion as a girls’ academy. Students and staff were thrilled to meet HRH the Duchess of Edinburgh and to have the opportunity to talk to her about their thoughts and experiences.”
