Harris Federation - Progress 8 2019
2019 was another successful year for the Harris Federation as recently released school league tables show that we remain the top-performing large Multi-Academy Trust (10+ schools) for Progress 8.
Progress 8 is the measure of the progress a child makes between the end of primary school and the end of secondary school.
22 Harris secondary academies were included in these results and our combined score was a phenomenal +0.41. Nine Harris academies are in the top 10% of all schools nationally for pupil progress.
Highlights include:
- Harris Academy Bermondsey is the top-performing school in the Harris Federation for pupil progress with a score of +0.93. This puts it in the top 2% of schools nationally.
- Harris Academy Battersea is the highest performing school in Wandsworth for pupil progress with a score of +0.92 that also sees it in the top 2.5% of all schools.
- Harris Academy Morden is the highest performing school in Merton with a Progress 8 score of +0.83.
- Three out of the five top schools for progress in Southwark are Harris academies – Harris Academy Bermondsey, Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich and Harris Boys’ Academy East Dulwich.
This year, 40% of our GCSE cohort came from disadvantaged backgrounds and they achieved phenomenally with a collective Progress 8 score of +0.23. By contrast, in 2018, the national score for disadvantaged pupils was -0.44. This means that, on average, disadvantaged students at Harris achieve one grade higher in six of their best eight subjects – in effect, getting 6 GCSE grades more than they would at a statistically ‘average’ school.
Overall, 35% of Harris students achieved the Ebacc, compared to just 24% of students nationally (2018), demonstrating the high quality, demanding curriculums in place in our academies.
