Y9 Harris Experience - Christie's Auction House
During the week beginning May 19th, 25 schools brought over 200 students to Christie's Auction House, located on King's Street in central London. This iconic building is where James Christie originally founded the company in 1766, which has since become a world-renowned auction house, selling some of the most expensive artworks on the international art market.
It is an honour to collaborate with Christie's to make this Year 9 event happen. Chelsea and Ted both gave talks about the history of Christie's, what the art market entails, and some of the artworks they have sold. Later, staff from the HR department came to explain the work experience and apprenticeship opportunities. It was incredible to give students a glimpse into the typically elitist art sphere and show them that this is a career available to them.
We ended each day with a group art-making session, where each group had to 'curate' their own little exhibition. Despite every group being given the same art materials, it was amazing to see the vast variety of creative products.
