Y12 Harris Experience Advanced - Session at HCL6F
On May 14th, we met for a third time with our group of Y12 students in the Harris Scholars Advanced 2024/25 cohort, in the beautiful purpose-built venue of Harris Clapham Sixth Form. As this is a group we are especially keen to support in applying to prestigious university destinations such as Oxford and Cambridge, we prepared a session around critical thinking and interview preparation. Our team demonstrated both elements of a typical interview, and a typical humanities tutorial. In the former, students were challenged to assess how the mock candidate could have better demonstrated their passion and aptitude for their subject. The latter tutorial session saw students observing how undergraduates might be challenged on their own written work, as an example of a critical academic environment.
We were hugely grateful to have external speakers with us on the day as well. All year, Alex from Zero Gravity has been providing dedicated support on the platform for our Scholars. On this day, Alex came in person to HCL6F to demonstrate some of the exclusive content Zero Gravity has provided our students, including materials from Jesus College, Oxford. Furthermore, we were joined by a brilliant tutor from the Philosophy Foundation who guided the students through a session on expanding their thinking. Students finished for the day by spending some dedicated time online going through and applying to various opportunities to enrich their wider learning. We were so enthused to spend so much time with our brilliant cohort of Scholars students, and are looking forward to seeing them in July for our annual application conferences.
